completely agree with Jay,

I don't know what courses are available in the area but a foundation  
course is the type of thing to look for.
I suspect most evening courses would be more technical in nature, so  
they'll show you how to use photoshop but won't be focused on teaching  
you creative practices, or design theory etc...
My main recommendation though is to hang out in shoreditch, wear  
trendy clothes and get Mac everything - er I can't advise on trendy  
clothes anymore (or ever could)
