Its that the real capacity of the drive is 80GB (i.e. if I just wrote
a long string of bytes , I could fit 80GB worth), but by the time its
formatted (directory structures and file markers) its less.
Its like putting up shelves in a cupboard. The shelves themselves take
space, so you can fit less in compared to ramming it full, but you can
find things easier!
