[BNM] [OT] Phone company tactics

I have been with O2 for four years now and from my experience with them, telling the standard operators "I want to shop around so what can you offer me" gets you nowhere -- they aren't authorised to cut deals. If you want to cut a deal, phone up cancellations, tell them you want to cancel and give them a sample contract from somewhere else you're looking at. They will look at how much you've spent and, in my case, give you an actual ££ figure on your worth to them, which they can then spend on upgrade/price reduction/mixture of the two.

To be fair, after only 1 year, I doubt they'll offer you anything amazing unless you've spent a lot of money with them, and with new contracts typically being 18 months, competition seems to have died down a bit in the market.
