<40" go for LCD <1080i
40"> go for plasma and/or only 1080p
Is what I usually get told.
And make sure whatever you get (TV/monitor) can support 16:9 and 16:10
(the 1x1 pixel stuff Yezzer was talking about)
Also note that TV displays in showrooms don't really help either as
there is a single feed going into a splitter to all the screens so the
signal is weaker and poorer as a result not giving a "true" idea of how
the screen copes with analogue signals. But that digital switchover is
getting nearer and more HD TV options are available. Freeview HD will be
available soon (which PS3 PlayTV will support).
I have a 37" 1080i LG screen which I am very happy with. I have only
really noticed a difference between 1080i and 1080p with very fast
moving scenes or having things paused.
A note about the Sony screens is that they are generally awful to look
at out of the box. There is fortunately a firmware / settings file
available off the interwebs I believe that sorts it all out magically.
