[BNM] Help!! really strange FTP failure!!

Hi

I am getting the strangest FTP failures at the moment.

I start uploading a large amount of files to a server and initially it all
goes very fast, but it gradually slows and then the server at the other end
appears to drop the link so the client times out.

The ftp client tries again after a few minutes and sometimes it can transfer
a few more files before the same thing happens.

Eventually the client will not be able to locate the server.

This process happens regardless of the server or the ftp client active or
passive transfers and I think, though I am not certain, that if I do lots of
ftp work to one server the other will start to time out because of that.

I am using Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon and iots a fresh install.

The same problem does not occur if I use SSH to do the transfers.
