I don't understand the need for an 'editable' archive format.
Final docs can be images if the format is important (say, TIFF), or plain
text if the content is important - OCR the images if you want the text, let
the OCR engine work out the language/locality/culture (OCR is only ever
going to get better - and is effectivly 'retro fitted' so you can sort out
the detail as and when he technology can cope, rather then trying to second
guess (or future guess) everything now) - meta data can be ascii XML, let
the search engines of the future sort out the taxonomy/folksonomy etc. My
little notes in notepad really don't need to know the
locality/culture/calendar format of every thing I type they are just symbols
for my own benefit - like writing on paper.
Massive standards are just soo much euro trash... Those who can't create
just want to put rigid harnesses on those who can - Europe do it because
they are jealous and stupid, the US does it because it can be profitable.
