You don't need to transfer your domains out, or move from one single
point of failure to another potential one, all you have to do is alter
the nameserver records at 123 reg to point to a 3rd party DNS
provider.

My setup is as follows:

1. Register domains (.com and .co.uk) at Go Daddy.

2. Add the domains to my DNS Made Easy account

3. Use the Go Daddy web interface to set the nameservers for the
relevant domains to be ns0, ns1, ns2, ns3 & ns4.dnsmadeeasy.com

4. Create some MX secondaries (currently a free service) at rollernet.us

5. Add the rollernet MX hosts to the domains via the DNS Made Easy control panel

This way I can use whomever I currently favor to physically register
the domains, but I don't have to rely on them or their ineptitude to
serve them. And even if something disastrous does go wrong, I've not
put all my eggs in one basket, because the rollernet secondaries will
pick up email if something happens to my primary mailservers, or even
then main DNS...
