I actually did go through the private/public school system for my entire
education. It was only when I arrived at university that I realized that I
had had a pretty sheltered education in terms of what happens in the real
world. The people I met and their backgrounds were a real enlightenment to
me.

Suffice to say, the people I know now that went to local schools and all
grow up together have real friendships with a lot of people they know
locally. Of course a lot have moved on, as have I. I think there is a lot to
be said for being educated locally and along with the rest of your peer
group, rather than being segregated in to some private/public institution.

The irony is, that my other half performed far better than I at school and
university and she went to the schools I would have gone to had I not gone
through the private sector. At that age it is all about how much the child
applies themselves rather than perhaps the educational environment they are
in.

I wasn't going to mention this, but your intellectual gifts were clearly 
not matched by your social ones. I was also one of the brightest, but 
had the wit to get on with all the other kids, no matter where they were 
on the oik scale. Good for you that you are developing your own self 
imposed exclusion into something wonderfully and expensively formalised, 
though. They'll have a great time together. All kids the same. No nasty 
new ideas, difficult problems or things that you maybe don't understand 
to have to grapple with. Just the rarefied atmosphere of private, 
superior exclusion. That'll get them ready for The World.
