Hi Alex,
>Your client hasn't got a leg to stand on - sorry. The domain is legally
registered to this other individual not them. The 'owner/registrant' field
is the determining factor for ownership
Sorry I should have been clearer there - what I meant was 'as far as the
Registry/Reseller is concerned'. I'm sure the courts would have a different
view after viewing the evidence, and I misused the word 'legally' there :).
The point I was trying to make, badly - was that resellers/Registries take
the owner/registrant field very seriously. You can't change owner details on
a domain unless you have a court order as the risk of future litigation is
just too great.
Luckily people seem to be catching on to how important correct registration
is these days. I'm always amazed at the casual way people treat the domain
ownership and control - when that is the base for their entire business.
We had to change name servers last month, you wouldn't believe how many
people had lost their domain details/didn't know where it was registered or
told us their web designer had 'dealt with all that' - ah sorry he seems to
have gone out of business. Ho hum.
Best Regards,
Nick
