Advice from someone who is not selling damp proofing is essential. The
ones I spoke to we're far from professional. They always diagnose
'rising damp' and expensive tanking as the answer. A bit of damp or
condensation is to be expected in many buildings in Brighton and can
often be cured by painting the wall with some PVA glue, using
damp-proofing paint that contains mould retardants, and/or ventilating
the area better. If it's an un-tanked basement then the answer is
obviously tanking. Rising damp is quite rare.
