After many hours of in depth counselling err I mean discussion with other
addicts - we came to the conclusion that its the people and formed
relationships that make the game addictive not the game.
You meet a couple of guys while in pursuit of a common task - one turns out
to be a total plonker so now you and the other guy not only have the task as
common ground but the discussion of (an)others behaviour. Repeat this a few
times and a bond begins but without having ever met in reality - the only
way to continue the bond is in the game. Tasks get bigger requiring you to
eat sleep and work around when people are available.
The 'final' / higher tasks can involve a group of 50ish people all locked
together for over a week on the same dungeon - completing the task could
take 30+ hours of group work and cannot be done with less or different
people.
To surmise that's a 30hour commitment to a game in a single week on top of
your working week - things like sleep, food, personal hygiene and social
lives get squeezed.
Worrying but true - and guess what - they are only gonna get bigger better
and More addictive.
