Are you talking about loadtesting? Simulating x number of concurrent
actions/users on the site at any given/period of time?

You could try www.opensta.org - open source load testing.

Or you could try Mercury Interactives Loadrunner - though that comes in at a
few thousand - can't remember exactly what!

I'm looking for a testing suite that gives stats sim to webalizer to
test performance of a webserver. persumably it would be set up on
several other servers and the results averaged. the site will go under
strain in a few weeks so i need to have something in place to settle the
clients worries that his customers will go to a better setup.

on a quick G. this turned up:

phpmysql malarky
